Brianne Sidonie Desaulniers was born on October 1, 1989, in Sacramento, California. She grew up in Sacramento with her younger sister, Milaine. In 1996, at the young age of 7, Brie began her career as a professional actress; she studied acting at the American Conservatory Theatre as one of its youngest pupils.
After moving to Los Angeles, Brie was on the lookout for acting jobs. In 1998, she received her first role as a recurring comedic actress for skits on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. In 1999, Brie continued filling up her resume by making guest appearances on shows like Touched by an Angel and Popular.
Brie decided to push toward a career in music, in addition to her acting jobs. She was fueled by a personal connection to musical theater, her own collection of vinyl records and the many rock concerts she attended.
On October 18, 2005, Brie released her debut album Finally Out of P.E. (referring to physical education) at the age of 16. The pop album features 13 tracks based on her personal experiences. In addition to the album release, Brie worked with Mattel to produce "Hope Has Wings," the final song for a direct-to-video Barbie movie (the song is also the last track on her own album).
Brie lists Carole King, Edie Brickell, the White Stripes, and Modest Mouse among her musical influences, and she joined Jesse McCartney on his 2005 tour.
